I volunteered with a good friend of mine. She teaches at MTSU, our local university. But L also volunteers for various projects…a lot. This weekend she taught a special effects class to teenagers. There is a local organization just getting off the ground called the Youth Culture and Art Center http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=40031015 in town who sponsored the event. Now, I know what you are thinking….special effects…teenagers…I bet this was just playing around. You would be wrong. The kids got to make a alginate mold of their finger and then cast it in gelatin foam. They then applied makeup on the “finger” and made up their hands to match the finger so that it appeared that the finger had been severed. I’m posting a picture of my finger. It’s so gross I can hardly look at it and I know it was my hand! They also got to do another injury on their faces. These were really BAD as well. L says it’s the only time that she can say to a student “that’s so bad” and mean it as a compliment. So, what did you do this weekend?
