Happy Birthday to Me

Welllll….I’m a little closer to 40 today than I was yesterday.  Somehow it doesn’t really bother me.  I remember turning 26 and thinking it was the end of the world, that my youth was gone because I was in my “late 20’s.”   What was I thinking?  Now I’m 37 and while everything is not perfect, it’s pretty damn good.  I am certainly no Pollyanna (ask just about anyone who has known for longer than a minute).  But, the good far outweighs the bad and sometimes I would rather have the bad than nothing.  Wow…I’m off in la-la land.

Anyway, my sister brought me birthday cookies froma local bakery this morning.  She had two kinds, one was fudge filled chocolate chip and the other was coconut filled chocolate.  They were great!  She and her family also sent me a mixed plant with cut flowers in it.  I have it on my desk at work…..the cube farm.  My dad brought me 12 yellow roses: beautiful.  Momma called.  Nanny called.  Wendy sent me an e-card…several.  And best of all, my husband, Henry called the morning to wish me Happy Birthday and tell me he was on his way home. He should be here by 4 or so tomorrow afternoon.  He’s been in grad school in another state…14 hours away for the last year.  He will be home for 3 glorious months. We need this.  We have one year under our belts and two more to go.

On the knitting front:  I’ve taken Odessa apart for the 5th time.  I am beginning to think it is cursed.  I want it to be perfect.  A friend of a friend needs a little love in the form of a drop dead gorgeous chemo cap.  I chose Urban Silk in an offwhite…it looks like a pearl.  I had completed up to the decreases and found that I had made a couple of mistakes that I had compensated for, but when looking at it as a whole I was not thrilled with the fix.  So, I took it apart and decided to add the beads.  It has sucked since then.  I have cast on 4 times and got just past the ribbing only to find some fatal flaw.  I’m not real sure when I became such a fussy knitter. I just love to knit and can generally live with some imperfections.  In art school we attributed those “flaws” to its truth as a hand made object and even took advantage of “happy accidents.”  hmmmmmm

What I really need to do is to go on a finishing spree.  I have two lace scarves, one lace tank top, one tank top for Mycah and one for the Grey.  And, I almost forgot, a Noni bag that is over half done. I stopped on it because I was getting so close to finishing I knew I would have to felt it.  I am so freaked out about that.  It’s just doesn’t seem like mine will work.  I know everyone else’s works, but it seems like magic!

  1. I hope you had a happy birthday. I like the new header. It looks great! Did I tell you that I took out 20 rolls of my lace shawl? It was a big mistake and Meredith had to fix it for me. Stupid me. I am glad that Henry is home. 🙂
